I posted my first engineering-related blog post in 2020. Since then, my career has blossomed into more than I could have imagined, and I have seen a lot of benefits from writing technical blogs and creating videos.
If you are an engineer with love for writing and looking for a passion project, then building a tech blog may be a great fit for you. If you are not into writing, you can still benefit from writing a tech blog.
Note: Do not let the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and the pressure to rank with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) deter you from writing your own tech blog.
Here are 8 benefits of building a tech blog.
You upskill in non-technical areas like writing, editing, and marketing (if you choose to promote your skill).
You become the teacher rather than the student.
You start to build a solution repository that you can refer to in the future.
You start to convey technical thoughts to others.
You start to build a portfolio that you can link to your resume.
You could land your next role by the recognition your blog posts or videos receive.
You start to build a brand.
You can turn you blog into a business.
Here is an honorable mention. This benefit was provided by Joshua Erney, who also has a tech blog.
You grow to like documentation. 😀
This is the first blog post on the benefits of building a tech blog. In the following weeks I will expand on each benefit.
